Running a blog is hard work. Ideally we all want to run successful blogs where we provide quality content, gain tons of traffic, and build your brand. 

Many bloggers make a lot of common mistakes that cause them not to be able to take their blog to the next level.

In this post, I will be reviewing 10 reasons why you’re not getting search traffic

#1 Your Site Isn’t Indexed

If your site isn’t indexed, this explains why your not receiving traffic. Once your website or blog is indexed, you’ll start to see more traffic from Google. 

Eventually Google will get around to index your site, but here are couple of steps to index your site quickly: 

#2 Find Your Target Audience

Knowing your target audience is critical. By determining if there are enough potential customers for your business will help identify if your in the right niche. How do you find your target audience?

Here are a few steps to help you notify your target market:

  • Understand the problems that you solve
  • What are you selling and what makes it so unique
  • To whom do you want to sell it
  • Focus on your primary market
  • Who will gain from the value in your offer
  • Research your market

#3 Identify The Right Keywords

If you’re committed to building a successful website you have to focus in finding profitable keywords. Keyword research is an ofter underestimated part of SEO.

If you want your website to be found by search engines then you must know how to find profitable keywords for your website.

#4 You’re Not Placing Keywords In Your Headlines

Headlines or post titles, are the most important part of your article. A well written headline delivers tons of traffic.  

Majority if people use headlines to decide whether or not they will click on the link. Not placing the keywords in your heading will affect your traffic.

#5 Your Blog Post Are Not Long Enough

Before anything, your blog post just has to be a good piece of writing. Content quality and lengthy post is very important to Google.

Google job is to find high quality long post verses short fluff post. You should aim to write a minimum of 2000 words. 

For instance, if you wrote a 200-word post verses someone else who wrote 2000-word post Google would find the way to place the 2000-word post on top of the search engine. 

#6 You’re Not Creating Sharable Content

If you’re not regularly sharing post that resonate with your audience it will affect the growth of your blog.

Here are some tips to follow to help you create shareable content:

  • Be helpful to your audience write post answering their questions
  • Don’t be afraid to be controversial
  • Create catchy headlines
  • Create call to actions for your audience
  • Analyze the numbers (Google Analytics)
  • Connect with your audience 
  • Send out surveys to your audience

# 7 Your Not Adding Internal Linking

Internal linking is the most overlooked and undervalued SEO tactic. Internal links should never open in new browser tabs, but rather the same tab.

Content links are a strong signal to both the search engine and  the user that content you’re linking to is really good. Internal linking allows for good website navigation and structure and allows search engines to crawl or spider websites. 

#8 You’re Not Using WordPress

One of the advantages of utilizing WordPress it makes the process of indexing your website quickly. The faster your site index it will improve your Google ranking.

  • Easy to use
  • Manage from any computer
  • Add multiple users
  • The design is customizable 
  • Add plugins functionality to your blog
  • Search engine loves WordPress sites
  • No HTML editing required

#9 You’re Not Optimizing Your Images

If you want more traffic, you must learn how to optimize your images. Images do drive traffic through image search. I usually name my images prior to uploading them.

Make sure to use the keyword to filled out the Title and Alt Text this will help you to optimize your images. 

#10 You’re Not Adding Outbound Links

Links are the connection between various web pages and when such links are attached to websites, they are called outbound links. Outbound links play a critical role in your overall linking strategy.

Make sure to link out to high quality websites. (Relevant to your post )  Too many outbound links however can greatly diminish the Page Rank. The page should have at least 3 outbound links.

    Love this Nancy, so many simple yet effective things. a lot of things like optimising images may seem like hard work, but become second nature over time. And not only does an appealing, optimised image look tasty to the search engines, it appeals to pinners and other visual marketing places, and that in turn sucks in the traffic,

    Ah!! I was wondering why my latest post was not being indexed by Google even after quite a few days. After reading the point about the sitemaps, I went to Webmasters and checked the submitted sitemap there. There were a lot of crawl errors. Now I have installed the Google XML Sitemaps plugin, need to wait and see the results.
