Blogging is everywhere right now. Individuals have blogs of their own, businesses and now even some pets have blogs! The number one reason why blogging is so successful and growing like crazy is because it’s so simple to set a blog up and start posting your own content to the internet.

Blogging for SuccessHowever, when something is easy it also usually means that everyone is doing it and there isn’t much value. This is true in the blogging space as well. Anyone can throw up a domain name, install wordpress and say they have a blog, but how many of these blogs are actually be read and who really cares about their content.

99% of the blogs out there will fade away and just contribute to the trash of the internet. 1% will actually make money and lead to something bigger. How can you become part of that 1%? It’s all about knowing how to build content for your site and standing out from the crowd.

Here are some useful tips to help you along the way.

Know Your Message, Know Your Audience

The most important factor when creating a blog is to know why you are blogging in the first place. Better yet, why are people going to visit your blog and what are they going to do when they get there? If you can’t answer these questions then you simply have no chance for success. You need to know your audience and build a blog business around what they are looking for.

One of the best ways to get started in the world of blogging is through the use of niche blogs, which allow you to focus on a simple product or service… everything you can focus on about one specific niche. This will allow you to have an audience that knows exactly what you want while also being able to monetize your content in the process.

Building Your Brand

Many blogs are started out to promote personal brands, services and businesses. If you are going this direction then you are going to want to make sure you only post the highest quality content and focus on being an “authority” brand and figure within your niche market. You want to be the “go to” source for whatever it is you are blogging about. This can be anything from affiliate marketing, blogging itself, fishing, health advice or anything else you specialize in.

Giving People What They Want

In the end your blog’s success is going to be completely reliant on what your audience thinks of your blog and how they react to your content. If you create garbage then no one is going to share it and help grow out your site. If you provide value and people like what they see, they are going to share it with their friends and promote your blog and brand for you.

Even if you have a ton of money to spend on advertising and running traffic to your blog, what’s the end goal? If people aren’t “using” your blog and not getting any value out of it… there is no point.

Follow these tips and be sure to look at your blog from both a site owner and a site visitor to improve your overall chances for success in the world of blogging and making sure you stand out from the crowd.

Great points Zac. I wish I had started blogging back in 2005 when I first thought about it. It seems as if everyone has a blog these days. Unfortunately, many blogs seem to be very similar to one another. It is very important to try and make your blog stand out above the rest.

    • Zac Johnson says:

I wish I started blogging earlier too, so I can just be thankful I started when I did! It’s all about building a brand and keeping a loyal following among your readers.

  2. Great post Zac! I do agree, is important to stand out from the crowd! Thanks again for the terrific article.

  3. Larry James says:

I enjoyed reading your article Zac. After reading it I am wondering if my niche is too big. My blog is about web design in general. I am thinking I should narrow it down to something more specific. Thanks for sharing this.

    • Zac Johnson says:

Web design is a great niche to be in. It’s tough to really narrow it down, but the good thing is that the majority of people that know about web design already know most aspects of it, so you might be in good shape.

  4. Akshay Nassa says:

Differentiating you blog from others is a must these days. People are just setting up blogs randomly, a little differentiation in you niche will make your blog stand out from the crowd.

    Nice Post….btw

  6. Edet says:

    Thinking of starting a blog!

  7. Susan Neal says:

Excellent advice – I think the trouble is, bloggers often want quick results and it can take time to do each of these things. Getting to know your audience and producing content they really want isn’t something that happens overnight.

    • Zac Johnson says:

Blogging is one of the slowest methods around for starting a business and building a brand online. Fortunately it’s also one of the cheapest! If you can make it in the world of blogging and start a brand of your own, you can make it anywhere!

  8. Erin Walsh says:

I love blogging, but what I really like doing is gaining the reputation as someone that is giving away information free. In my niche, I actually instruct people on how to fix their PC, but give them an option for help, tutorials, knowledgebase, and my home blog. It’s one of the more fun parts of my job. Guest Blogging is pretty intricate and one must be careful sometimes. This is an example of a great guest blog opportunity.

    • Zac Johnson says:

Awesome concept. Everyone is always looking for free tutorials and guides online to fix their computers or wharever. I’m sure you have some very high quality content that advertisers in the computer and tech space would just love to get exposure on.

  9. Hi Zac & Nancy,
We think both of you rock! One question we have a small following and would love to find out more about what they want (not getting much feedback) what is the best way to get followers to let us know what they want? Thanks for both of your time and have a great day on purpose!

    • Zac Johnson says:

Thanks for the comments and reading the blog! Unfortunately the majority of people out there are going to be quiet readers and not leave comments or feedback. Not knowing the niche you are in, I would recommend that you find the other top blogs within your niche and see what they are offering to their audience. Try to implement the same practices, while also offering more and trying to do it better.

  10. Anuj Narula says:

To me the first point resonates the most, because when I was new to blogging it was just random stuff and attempt to monetize fluff. Unless a business has a “REASON” to be online, the blog is useless. What I mean is that when you find and service a hungry audience, your blogging is actually backed up by a real, tangible product or service that someone is interested in spending money on. Like golf clubs, or cars, or SEO services, or gadgets/phones, or ready-to-eat food etc.

So put business first and I believe a blog fits into the overall promotion of that business. THose are the blogs that have to worry the least about running dry and out of customers.

  12. Michael Bian says:

Really liked the article! Thanks Zac !

  13. Michael Bian says:

Absolutely brilliant and simple post, maybe through blogs all dreams of individuals about their business will come true.
