In today’s post, I will be sharing 7 Instagram caption mistakes. These are the most common Instagram mistakes I often see even with my freelance clients. I will be teaching you how to write captions on Instagram by following these Instagram caption hacks. ENJOY!
- CHASING THE LIKES: Do you feel disconnected with your audience? Are you not getting any leads? It can all be to the fact that you’re chasing the likes. Next time you post on Instagram don’t post and leave. Make sure to spend 15-30 minutes after you post engaging back with your audience. This will help you build a meaningful and authentic relationship with your community which in return turn your followers into leads. Please NOTE: LIKEs don’t pay the BILLS. A loyal tribe does.
- NOT STARTING YOUR CAPTION WITH ENGAGING CONTENT: Another Instagram caption mistake is not starting your caption with engaging content. Make sure the first sentence of your captions grabs the attention of the reader with a question or a call to action. Instagram shows the first few words of your caption and that’s followed with a call to action “more” button where potential leads can click to read the entire caption. By writing a question or adding a call to action it will help intrigued people to click on “more” to engage with your post.
- NO SPACES IN CAPTIONS: Adding line breaks in your Instagram captions makes it easier for your followers to follow along. You don’t want a huge paragraph of unbroken text, is a turn off for many people and you would lose your audience retention. Check out this tool that I used to make beautiful Instagram caption lines.
- NO CALL TO ACTION INCLUDED: One the quickest ways to increase your engagement, gain new followers or turn a potential lead to a conversion is by adding a call to action. I see so many Instagram accounts that write out a beautiful caption with no call to action. You should place the call to action at the end of the caption with some sort of direction of what the reader should do next. Here is an example of a call to action: Double-tap if you find this funny.
- USING HASHTAGS AS CAPTIONS: Another caption mistake is using hashtags as captions with no text. To be quite honest people who do use only hashtags are lazy. It also comes off a bit SPAMMY and people will be turned off and not engage with your post and possibly unfollow you.
- NOT KEEPING YOUR AUDIENCE IN MIND: Always keep your audience in mind when writing your caption. This is another common mistake that I often see Instagram users do. They push out content for the sake of posting something with no marketing strategy or intention. And they are often left wondering why they don’t have any engagement. As harsh as this may sound people don’t care about YOUR LIFE. They follow your Instagram account because you help them resolved an issue they are having. So next time you push out content make sure the caption is grabbing the attention if your target audience. If you are still unsure about what to post about join Facebook Groups, Reddit, or any forum site that is relevant to your niche and see what is the common thing people have questions about. Then take those questions and create content around it. This is usually referred to as social listening.
- NOT USING EMOJI’S: According to a study by Quintly using emojis on your captions leads to more engagement. When using emojis in your captions make sure they are relevant to your verbatim and try not to go overload with them. Emojis are a great way to draw in the eye and make your followers take notice of your caption and call to actions when used correctly.
I hope these 7 tips on how to write better Instagram captions help. Share with us below of any captions strategies that you currently use on your Instagram account. I would love to hear them!
